what’s my why?
Joel Amiri Mitchell, a 2025 Ed Bradley Fellow and a Florida News Award Finalist in Political Reporting, has a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Florida A&M University.
Joel has a passion for storytelling, which allows him to convey meaningful stories. As a journalist he maintains accuracy, integrity, and transparency. His personal brand embodies his authenticity to be: enthusiastic, determined, helpful and grounded. He’s not afraid to challenge himself and can adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment. He produces, shoots, edits, and reports stories with intention. His passion for journalism is simple: to inform, engage, and serve as a voice for many voiceless communities. He uses his skills to act with urgency and attention to detail, balancing digital, broadcast, and print content. Joel plans to work at the highest quality, driven with purpose and curiosity. He aspires to become the best version of himself, both as a multi-media producer and as a person. When he’s not working, he’s occupied and active. He enjoys traveling, watching movies and TV. During his free time, he journals, cooks, exercises, and consider himself a music enthusiast.
